Correct Position

In this example it is easy to see which orientation will be the easiest to print. But with more complicated prints it might not be that obvious, it therefore helps to try a view orientations and you also have the chance to look at the print previous. Makerbot offers this option in the make menu. This is only helpful when you use supports, because you will notice how many supports makerware estimates for your print, and if you see too many, maybe a different orientation should be considered.

If you do not like supports, you can still print a print with overhangs if you follow a few rules.

– 45 to 90 degree angles are good. An Overhang with less than 45 degree is litterally printed in the air and can not be printed without a support.

– Always consider the orientation of your print. The more you use your printer the more you learn what is possible and not.
